Directorate of Special Units –National Technical & Tactical Support Unit

Working environment

The Directorate of Special Units of the Federal Police (DSU) is a highly specialized support unit that provides and/or implements specialist support, tactics and techniques for the local and federal police. The DSU focuses on serious organized crime and the activities of terrorist and extremist groups. DSU is a police service that can be deployed throughout Belgium and abroad if necessary.

The NTSU (National Technical & Tactical Support Unit) is part of the Special Units of the Federal Judicial Police. It is primarily responsible for preparing and carrying out discreet placements of equipment as part of special search methods and in crisis situations. Within the NTSU, the CTIF (Central Technical Interception Facility) is responsible for real-time interception and observation of telecommunications. CTIF has the necessary infrastructure to carry out its missions and is also developing its own solutions to make telecommunications interception more effective in the future.

Job description

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Medior support engineer to provide level 2 technical support for telecom and IT environments, ensure the reliability and performance of critical telecommunication solutions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of IT service quality. The IT Telecom Support Engineer plays a key role in supporting, testing, deploying, and maintaining telecom systems while ensuring that user expectations and technical requirements are met.

Responsibilities:

Level 2 Support & Incident Resolution

· Handle level 2 incidents and service requests related to telecom systems (VoIP, SIP, mobile networks, routing…).

· Diagnose, analyse, and resolve technical issues in both IT and telecom environments.

· Escalate complex incidents to specialised teams when required.

· Ensure proactive monitoring and follow-up of user environments.

· Contribute to the continuous improvement of telecom and IT support processes.

· Use ticketing tools to track incidents, requests, and resolutions.

Telecommunication Engineering & Deployment

· Support the implementation, testing, deployment, and interception of new telecommunication solutions.

· Collaborate with network operators and internal teams to troubleshoot performance issues.

· Work closely with team leadership and end-user representatives to ensure technical requirements and expectations are met.

· Participate in the validation and acceptance of new telecom features or services.

· Provide functional and technical support for telecom-related applications or tools.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

· Create and maintain documentation (procedures, test plans, user guides, support materials).

· Contribute to the knowledge base and ensure documentation remains up to date.

· Demonstrate initiative, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to learning and development.

Collaboration & Professional Behaviour

· Work effectively as part of a team while being capable of working independently.

· Take ownership of assigned tasks, assess risks, and seek guidance when necessary.

Required experience:

· Very good knowledge of mobile network architecture:

o 2G/3G/4G/5G, VoIP, SIP, routing, etc.

o Core Network (EPC, 5GC), IMS, VoLTE

· Very good understanding of signaling protocols

· Familiarity with roaming, interconnect, and lawful interception concepts

· Experience with networking, security.

· Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or Cybersecurity

· 5+ years in telecommunications or mobile network environments

· Prior experience in mobile operators, MVNOs, or telecom vendors is highly desirable

· Industry certifications are a strong plus, such as 3GPP / LTE / 5G certifications

· Experience with ticketing tools and structured support workflows.
