The job

 

The Virtualization and storage System Engineer achieves daily management and tuning of systems and infrastructure tasks to insure performance and availability of our services.

He manages data centers systems and infrastructure in order to run the hosted applications. The Virtualization and storage System Engineer is also in charge of preparing and implementing new installations, changes and upgrades.

 

As our Virtualization System Engineer, your main tasks will include

 

  • Ensuring level 2 and level 3 support for virtualization and backup platforms
    • Design, manage, and maintain Nutanix (AHV) and VMware environments
    • Implement and maintain high-availability and clustering solutions
    • Document operational procedures for 1st and 2nd level support
  • Designing, implementing, and operating enterprise backup solutions for virtual servers
    • Definition and enforcement of backup SLAs, RPO, and RTO
    • Configuration of backup policies, retention, restore, and reporting
    • Management of archiving and long-term retention of virtual workloads
  • Automating provisioning and operational tasks related to virtualization and backup
    • Automation of virtual server deployments
    • Scripting for backup, restore, monitoring, and maintenance activities
  • Setting up and maintaining high availability platforms (clusters) and backup processes
    • Proactive monitoring and optimization of performance, capacity, and storage usage
  • Collaborating on Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP)
    • Definition and testing of restore and disaster recovery scenarios
    • Participation in DR tests and continuous improvement of recovery procedures
  • Following up on incidents and communicating clearly in case of SLA breach to customers

 

We will also expect you to

 

  • Maintain an excellent level of personal expertise, keeping constantly informed of the latest update in relevant technologies and share knowledge with colleagues
  • Contribute to global Continuity and security platform and to that intent liaise with specialists from own department or from other team
  • Contribute to internal team meetings
  • Liaise & collaborate with other team members & ensure efficient hand-over of information & work, as appropriate

 

Profile

 

  • Minimum 7 years of experience as Virtualization System Engineer of which 2 in a senior position with effective end responsibility for technical aspects
  • Fluent in Dutch/French (a passive knowledge of one of both national languages is a must) and EnglishIT /technical knowledge:
  • Strong expertise in virtualization platforms, preferably Nutanix AHV and VMware vSphere.
  • Strong expertise in backup and data protection solutions, including SLA management and archiving.
  • Good knowledge of SAN and storage technologies.
  • Solid understanding of Windows Server environments in virtualized infrastructures
  • Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of server hardware and virtual infrastructure components
  • Experience with monitoring and reporting tools in enterprise environment
  • Analytic minded, open to new solutions and technologies
  • Ability to prioritize various requests, ranking the importance vs the urgency, while keeping the Customer’s interest as a priority
  • Team player at ease with sharing knowledge and best practices with colleagues
