What is your mission?

As an Enterprise IT Architect:

You help and support the IT department and all teams in delivering qualitative digital products and services, aligned to corporate & IT objectives, standards and principles.

You make the enterprise IT architectural vision tangible and applicable, and clarify the purpose and value of models, standards and patterns, and support the application & implementation thereof.

Together with the solution architects, you research and generate architectural options for new features, balancing emerging and intentional architecture.

You support business case creation, or draft them myself for transversal IT topics. You contributeto the quality of business cases drafted e.g. by making sure all relevant options are clearly described, all necessary angles are investigated to allow decision taking by management. Isupport the presentation of business cases to the different governance bodies.

You ensure that new knowledge and insights are also brought back to the IT architecture chapter so that knowledge can be scaled up.

Being part of the department of IT Division you play a vital role in ensuring strong, standardized, secure and efficient solutions for our clients and users.

    A brief description of the various governance instruments & meetings in which the Enterprise IT Architect must participate, a summary of his or her role therein:

    1. Portfolio & Planning

    • Portfolio & investment planning:
      • Create or actively contribute to the shaping of enabler epics.
      • Identify architectural needs for the business epics.
      • Contribute to keep the short and longer term IT roadmap in sync with reality and the strategic ambitions. 

    2. Governance

    • Architecture Peer Review & Coaching:
      • Actively request and offer peer reviews.
      • Offer advice and coach solution architects.
    • Architecture Review Board
      • Lead the Architecture Review Board together with the Lead Solution Architect.
      • Support business case drafting by solution architects.
      • Actively review business cases presented and make sure they are ‘strategic fits’.
      • Measure the effectiveness of architectural decisions.
      • Help to shape the optimal architectural runway (transversal) by identifying the right initiatives.
    • IT Management Board
      • Actively communicate & defend the Enterprise Architectural vision.
      • Help to shape the optimal architectural runway (transversal) by identifying the right initiatives.
      • Challenge IT management
    • Architecture Governance Board
      • Actively prepare business cases, with a substantial impact, for alignment on the architecture governance board.
      • Explain in laymen’s terms complex technical cases to avoid the ‘black box’ syndrome 

3. Key deliverables:

Following deliverables can be considered being part of the Enterprise IT Architecture role: 

    • Models and views to assess the current state ofarchitecture against the target vision,
       to align current and future state.
    • Solution or product target state and roadmap, aligned version of the target business & technology architecture and the optimal sequence in which changes are to be realized.
    • Business Cases, support in developing digital solution or product business cases.
    • Architecture IT requirements, requirements from an cluster architecture towards the organization to optimally realize the target state.
    • Architectural IT options, the variousarchitectural options (or scenarios) to move from today architecture towards the target state.
    • Architectural trade-offs, what are the optimal architecture options (or scenarios) in the light of the context and the ambitions of the organization. 
    • Architecture guardrails & architectural building blocks, typically models, patterns, standards or reference architectures, or other that guide the teams towards the desired outcome.
    • Technical advice, support the teams in realizing the intentional architecture.
    • Technology radar, develop a radar that highlights new and upcoming technologies that potentially have an impact on the business of Fednot.
